The unique feelings Le QuecumBar evokes
“… the spacious interior … needs to be seen to be fully believed … kind of Marlene Dietrich meets the Palm Court hotel.”
“… a cross between a Montmarte drinking den straight out of Moulin Rouge and a New Orleans jazz club.”
Remember the earthy, vibrant Gypsy music played by Johnny Depp and his Gypsy clan in the film Chocolat? Or the feel good rhythms in Woody Allen’s movie “Sweet and Low Down” with Sean Penn? or the catchy music of Woody Allen’s “Vicky Christina Barcelona” . This is Gypsy Swing, or in France Jazz Manouche. Gypsy Swing, also known as Gypsy Jazz or sometimes String Swing, it is Swing played with a wicked rhythm section of guitars and bass, rather than the traditional drums and bass of American Jazz.
This genre was created by the genius Gypsy guitar master Django Reinhardt and was the Hot Club Era of Paris in the 1930s.
This heart pumping atmospheric music is currently experiencing a tidal wave of resurgence throughout Europe and the States, as its heart beat rhythm, melody and fascination are rediscovered by world wide young musicians and the public alike, 50 plus years after Django’s death. The current world resurgence of this genre is largely due to the music’s usage in many recent movies and 2003 being the 50th anniversary of Django Reinhardt’s death and 2010 his 100th Birthday which has created renewed interest globally.
The one place in this country where it can be seen, heard and experienced in a setting that was designed around the music, is in our intimate Battersea wine bar/brasserie,
Le QuecumBar & Brasserie.

Listen, be entralled by live music up close and personal and above all enjoy, support and spread the word as our valued Patron;HANK MARVIN says
Dear Sylvia, we had a wonderful time at LequecumBar, loved the jam night, what a great atmos, and I was inspired by the enthusiastic and inventive playing from the various musos present. The non-playing crowd was really into it too. It was so good I almost thought of moving back to London! The “name” guest performers you are able to present there are truly the best of today’s Gypsy Jazz. The performance of the Angelo Debarre Quartet was outstanding and Matcho Winterstein was also a joy. It is so good to be able to sit close to the action, sadly there aren’t many venues that offer this intimacy. Please give my best wishes to the “A team” keep “pumping”.
